FEDERAL SCIENCE AND TECHNICAL COLLEGE, YABA SECOND TERM 2023/2024 SESSION’S NEWSLETTER Dear Parents/Guardians, Introduction This second Term 2023/2024 Academic Calendar has successfully come to an end without hitches to the glory of God. The term was laced with interesting events added to make it a wholesome experience. Some of these activities and other important information are disclosed below: Academic/College Activities/Highlights The Second Term Continuous Assessment started and ended well. The Second Term Internal Examination for all classes has also been concluded without hitch as students await their results. Mock Exams for Final Year students is still ongoing. Final Year Students will use this Mock Exam as basic for preparation in the upcoming final year students’ External Examinations like WAEC, NABTEB and NECO. College Inter-House sports which was done on Thursday, 29th February, 2024 was a huge success. Niger (Green) House was announced as the overall winner. Competitions /Laurels Our students went out for various competitions and won laurels both in academics and inter-schools sports competitions. FSTC, Yaba among others had excellent performances in the 2023/2024 Invitation relay races. National Debate: the Federal Ministry of Education organized a debate Competition in the six Geopolitical Zones. We are happy to announce that FSTC Yaba won the Southwest Zone (Lagos only) and would be proceeding to Abuja for the Final and National Level Competition on the 26th of March, 2024. 2023 Projects: The Federal Government, under this Administration has finally completed the following Projects: Two Storey – 9 Nos. Classroom Block for JSS 3 Students, 4 Nos. Classrooms for Technical Students, Two Storey, 12 Nos. Laboratory for Sciences, Assembly Hall, etc. Also, through World Bank – IDEAS PROJECT has massively renovated: ICT Workshop, Block laying and Concreting Workshop, Catering Workshop, We are glad to also disclose that one of our college partners, Axella Group, apart from renovating the Fabrication and Welding Workshop also now donated State of the Art equipment for the upgrading of the workshop. The Renovation of the Fabrication and Welding Technical Workshop was done in phases. The sponsor, Axxela Company recently supplied equipment to support government’s efforts and also train staff who will teach our students. The college still have the following projects as ongoing and completed: Renovation of the Hostel Block, etc. We are hopeful that with these projects in place, the college facilities will serve for academic activities conveniently. We appreciate the Federal Government and other sponsors for their interventions. Sworn Affidavit: All Senior Students (SS 1/YR 1 – SS 3/YR 3) are advised come back with a court Sworn Affidavit seal stating that they will be of good conduct and the school can carry out disciplinary actions for defaulters. Cases like Bullying, fagging, flying shirts, stealing, immoral conducts, wearing trekkers during school hours, destroying school properties, fighting, use of foul language, etc. will be met with strict disciplinary actions. Commonwealth Celebration: This year’s Commonwealth was celebrated with so much interesting student activities. Flags of Commonwealth Member Countries were displayed alongside drama, cutting of cake, fashion Parades, musical interludes, dances, etc. were performed by our students. Our “King” of Commonwealth, (Senior Prefect) gave resounding speeches amongst others. The theme for this year’s Common Wealth was “One Resilient Common Future”. Students’ Dressing - Blazer: The College Management is emphasizing that students must be properly dressed at all times. Blazers are compulsory part of dressing. All Boarders must make sure they come with their blazers and inscribe their names on the collars to check misplacements. Boarders without their names inscribed will not be checked in. Day Students: Day Students should be properly Dressed with their Blazers and School shoes. Day Students who are not properly dressed or have unkept hair will be turned back The Girls should always come to school with the right hair-style (plaited all back and not more than 20). All students must always appear neatly dressed: All students are enjoined to adhere to the already established standard of dressing. Management will not tolerate for example: hanging of ties, shortening/folding in trousers or skirts, skimpy skirts, slim fitting the skirts, trousers and shirts abnormally, etc. Sports Kits: It is compulsory for all Boarders to be checked into the Hostel with their College Sports Wear and white canvas alongside other hostel requirements. Students will now only participate in sports wearing the recognized College Sports Wear on White canvas. Wearing Mufti and/or going bare foot is now prohibited please. JSS 3F Sea School Leadership Training for Prefects/other Interested Students Sea School Leadership Training for all ‘would-be’ Prefects and other interested students will come up during long vacation. Date: 4th–10th August, 2024. Venue: Sea School, Apapa, Lagos. Attendance is a mandatory requirement for all “would-be” Prefects and is beneficial for other interested students. This training will inculcate the tenets of Leadership, Selflessness and Discipline in the participants. Moreover, the certificate obtained is universally acceptable. Parents/Guardians are advised to allow their children/wards participate in this laudable programme like many other public and private schools. Students’ Industrial Welfare Scheme (SIWES) Parents of SS 1 Yr 1 and SS 2 Yr 2 should please note that letters were given to the students to look for where they will do SIWES (students industrial work experience) during the long vacation in August and September. The letters should be signed by the company indicating that the industrial training will be done with them and then the letters should be submitted to VP Acad technical s office when we resume next term. Students who have not yet collected the letter should please go to the VP Acad technical s office as from Monday,10am-3pm daily. Science students in SS 1 and SS 2 must find companies related to their trade subjects. It is compulsory for all SS 1 Yr 1 and SS 2 Yr 2 students. VP Acad senior school/ VP Acad technical At the end of the Industrial Attachment, students are expected to submit to the college the log Book of work done duly signed by the employer/organization. Parents/Guardians can begin to look out for establishments where their Children/Wards will gain the Practical Experience during this period of Industrial Attachment. Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) This is a standardized test widely used for admission into colleges abroad. A service provider has opted to provide the classes for interested students. Classes are to come up in August 2024. Students who should be concerned include SS 2/ YR 2 and SS 3/ YR3 students respectively. Though it is not directly a school programme but the school encourages students to spread their possibilities in various academic capabilities. We wish all our students best of luck. Mode of Payment for School Fees
It is very important for fees to be paid on time to avoid rush. You may follow these guidelines:

- Select Payment/Bills and you will see the already generated student RRR
- Pay safely online or proceed to any bank with RRR using the child’s School

Discipline
Discipline is a collective responsibility of both the school and parents/Guardians. Please advise your children to desist from all acts of bullying, extortion, fighting, loitering, etc. Students who are caught breaking the school rules will be duly sanctioned.
Students’ Dressing
Students are advised to adhere strictly to the approved dressing code. Improper dressing gives the college bad image. Please, note that students must have the following at all times:
Extra sets of Uniforms must also be properly badged.
All ties must be properly knotted at all times.
All students must appear neatly dressed.
All girls must have their berets on at all times.
Please Note: All forms of hanging of ties, shortening/folding-in of trousers or skirts, skimpy skirts, slim fitting of skirts, trousers and shirts etc. will not be tolerated anymore. Also, note that students who bring handsets, pressing iron and other contrabands will be sanctioned and the items confiscated, never to be returned.

Sea School Leadership Training for Shadow Prefects

SIWES
It is compulsory for all students of SS 2/YR 2 to embark on SIWES Programme to Industrial Attachment from August 1/08/2023 to September, 6/09/2023
Speech Day, Prize-Giving Ceremony and Valedictory Service:
The college will be hosting the Final Year students and their parents on August 12th 2023. The Colour for the students is Royal Blue. All are advised to dress decently and come on time.
Also, students who have performed well will be recognized and appreciated.

The Ministry has commenced a Central Billing for all unity colleges for School Fees Payment.
Fees Payment Process;
- Visit www.education.gov.ng
- Click on Federal Unity Colleges
- Find your school and click the link
- Login to school's portal using your username and password
- Select Payment/Bills
- Generate student Unique RRR
- Pay safely online or proceed to Any bank with generated RRR.
- Login to your portal and print your receipt
- Proceed to the bursary dept. with printed receipt.

Parents without email address are seriously advised to
